SPRINGFIELD — A contractor in Berkshire County is repaying the IRS hundreds of thousands of dollars after he pleaded guilty to tax fraud.
Dennis Condron, who owns D Condron Construction, allegedly cashed customer checks into his personal bank account and then did not report the funds to his tax preparer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Prosecutors said Condron, 75, recently pleaded to four counts of tax fraud.
The unreported, diverted checks resulted in “his tax returns underreporting the gross receipts of the business by hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said a statement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Condron filed four false tax returns between 2017 and 2020 that failed to report $610,000, prosecutors allege in court documents filed Tuesday with the court.
“By diverting this income, (Condron’s company) did not pay taxes at the corporation level, resulting in an approximately $131,387 loss to the United States Government,” prosecutors wrote.
Furthermore, prosecutors said Condron failed to pay personal taxes on the diverted funds.
In total, Condron owes the IRS $92,487 in restitution for his personal taxes and $131,387 for D Condron Construction, according to the plea agreement.
According to a plea agreement filed Wednesday in the case, Condron does not have a criminal history, and it notes that he only has to pay a few hundred dollars more before he completed paying the restitution to the IRS.
The court has not yet scheduled a plea hearing.
